Profile

  • The British National Space Centre (BNSC) is part of the Department of Trade and Industry and is a voluntary partnership, formed from 10 Government Departments and Research Councils, to co-ordinate UK civil space activity.

The Challenge

  • To make the site more appealing and accessible to younger people
  • To encourage use of the web site as part of the National Curriculum
  • To make their web site an educational reference point for homework research.

Highlights

  • 'Learning Zone' is a new section of the web site that presents information in a fun and interactive way, targeted specifically at different age groups
  • Space Explorers (key stage 2/3). Developed 'Cosmo' - a character that appeals to younger children and introduces interactive games and quizzes to test and develop their understanding of Space
  • Advanced Explorers (ages 14+) takes a more in-depth look at Space with printable downloads
  • Teachers - learning materials such as lesson plans related directly to the National Curriculum
  • Parents - a guide for parents to help them understand their child's learning and enable them to play a more active role with homework.
