Master site for apprentice

4th June 2007

Bows, arrows and a pony named Tug – all features of the latest Big Picture Interactive (BPI) website.

Our team created the site for Random House Children’s Books to launch a new series for the UK: The Ranger’s Apprentice.

A hit in the author’s native Australia, Random House has launched the series over here with the first book The Ruins of Gorlan and will be adding the later books as each reaches a UK publication date.

The challenge for BPI was to create an engaging website to introduce the series to the target audience of 8-to 11-year-old boys.

We used the strong visuals of the book and added sound and movement to bring the books to life, with information about latest publications, the author and the characters.

An engrossing archery based game was created and developed in house by our team and is used on the site to encourage registration and repeat visits.

Client feedback:

“It’s fabulous! Congratulations to all concerned!"
Ranger's Apprentice author John Flanagan

“When briefing the Ranger’s Apprentice web site we set out to achieve something that would take John Flanagan’s wonderful vision and really bring the series to life. Big Picture readily accepted this challenge and delivered a site that not only met, but exceeded our expectations. The look and feel of the site perfectly compliments the books, adding real tone and depth, and the archery game is as fun and addictive a challenge as you could wish for. The site will expand and grow naturally with each new book in the series and is something that we, the fans, the author and indeed Big Picture, can all be proud of.”
Gavin Hilzbrich, Random House Children’s Books
