Helping girls to understand puberty
3rd July 2007
The latest site by Big Picture Interactive (BPI) is aimed at 10- to 16-year-old girls – helping them find all the information they could need about starting their periods.
The site was created for Lil-lets UK Limited, a market leader in the feminine hygiene industry, to support their ‘When I was 11…’ schools programme.
The new Lil-lets Girls website helps girls tackle the issues they may be too embarrassed to talk about:
- What changes are happening to my body?
- What are periods?
- How do you use a tampon or pad?
Flash animators created moving illustrations, as well as working on the overall feel of the site. Though information-packed, the site has a clean and fresh ‘magazine style’ look, ideal for the target age group and will help support the Lil-lets schools programme.
Search engine marketing
A crucial part of the project was search engine marketing and our information architecture team made sure the site is attractive not only to users but also to search engines, to ensure that visitors can find it. Carefully targeted keywords were included in the site to maximise the chance of being found.
Although the site was designed with W3C guidelines and accessibility in mind at all times, the site also includes a printable PDF to allow girls to download or print off the resources and read them in their own time.
